A pathway of guided physical exercise to help you lead a more active life

The CU Fitter Self-Referral Exercise Programme operates in West Sussex and is an exercise scheme aimed at helping recovering cancer patients improve their fitness, develop a physically active lifestyle which in turn will help prevent a recurrence of cancer.

Personal advice from fully-qualified experts Qualified Level 4 personal trainers who have undergone GP referral and advanced training in cancer rehabilitation, are running the CUFitter programme from a specially designed facility in Angmering.

Unlike a busy membership gym, the CU Fitter environment will cater only for people in recovery or with ongoing health problems. Further, the CU Fitter objectives deliberately compliment the NHS Coastal West Sussex CCG’s strategic aims of:

  • Improving people’s health and wellbeing;
  • Improving the health of people living with a long term condition;
  • Reducing the number of deaths from cancer;
  • Improving quality of life and increasing life expectancy;
  • Providing an initial assessment and ongoing feedback to GP’s as an invaluable tool to ensure and monitor the continued improvement in health and fitness.

At CU Fitter, we will help you to become more motivated, confident and independent.

Over a period of 12 weeks you and the instructor will gradually increase the activity levels, motivation and confidence so that you develop, gets an understanding and harnesses all the skills needed to stay active, happy and healthy for life.

More importantly, for cancer sufferers, exercise can boost energy after treatment and help to reduce side effects of treatment. It can also be beneficial for those with long-term illnesses such as lymphoedema, anxiety, depression and impaired mobility, as well as aiding the recovery of physical function, managing fatigue, improving quality of life and mental health, and controlling body weight.
